An input-output framework for the identification and control of fluid flows

Fulvio Martinelli
LadHyX

Recent developments in feedback flow control considered system identification as a viable tool to obtain a low-dimensional representation of the flow dynamics. Once identification is performed, standard control design techniques are applied to appropriate state-space realizations. After a brief overview of available approaches, this talk will focus on two main developments, namely, the identification in presence of deterministic disturbances in the flow, and the design of control laws bypassing any state-space formalism. Control of vortex shedding from a 2D circular cylinder is considered as a model problem. Results will be discussed and a perspective will be given.
