Simultaneous temperature and velocity imaging in fluid flows using thermographic phosphor tracer particles.

Benoit Fond, Christopher Abram et Frank Beyrau
Department of Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College London

Planar high-speed temperature and velocity measurements in fluid flows can be performed simultaneously using micrometer-sized thermographic phosphor particles as tracers. The particle Mie scattering signal is recorded to determine the velocity using a conventional PIV approach and the luminescence emission is detected to determine the tracer temperature using a two-colour method. Validation of this concept and applications in turbulent flows are presented.
